A pleasing early 20th-century Reeves & Sons watercolour mahogany box.

The box is mahogany wood, French polished and embellished with ebony detailing, brass pull and a working lock and key. The inside of the lid features an ornate gilded maker’s name and the Reeves’ Greyhound logo.

Inside the box, there are 18 cake watercolours, a three-division tile palette, a glass dipper bowl, and a paintbrush. In the drawer below there are four out of six original ceramic mixing saucers.

Colours include Pale Chrome, Ivory Black, Prussian Green, Burnt Umber, Emerald Green (broken), Indian Red, Raw Sienna, Indigo, Vermilion, Burnt Sienna, Yellow Ochre, Van Dyke Brown, Bistre, Light Red, Crimson Lake, Gamboge and Prussian Blue. Most are unused, several are lightly used, and several are different to the label on the wooden tray.

The box is in good condition for its age.

When closed the box measures 22.8 cm wide, 20.8 cm deep and 7.2 cm tall.
