Light Red - Reeves & Inwood Georgian Antique Paint Cake

A Reeves & Inwood antique watercolour paint cake in Light Red.

An rare paint cake dating from the 1780s, produced by Reeves & Inwood. William Reeves along with his brother Thomas was the founder of the world renowned Reeves company. He joined with John Inwood in the late 18th century. The company was only in existence for around 30 years.

The cake features the Reeves & Sons crest of arms, a combination of the King’s Arms and The Blue Coat Boy, as well as their famous greyhound logo. The reverse of the cake states “Reeves & Inwood, Original Invention, Superfine Colour, To The Royal Family”.

The cake is unused and has some wear as should be expected for a piece over 240 years old.

Light Red is a brownish red created by burning yellow ochre.

The cake measures 2.8 cm x 1.9 cm x 0.6 cm. The cake weighs 6.2 grams.
