C Roberson japanned tin box in black.
With space for 12 ceramic half pans, the advantage of these boxes is that the colours can be held securely in place by the long V spring clip, and then taken out easily and swapped around.
Once open the lid can be used as a palette and there is a metal thumb ring on the back to help secure the box for plein air painting. There is also a delightful gold-coloured nameplate on the inside flap.
The box dates from around the 1960s.
When closed the box measures 14.4 cm x 7.3 cm x 1.8 cm and is in good condition.
