Rare Rowney Retail Shop Display - Artists Soft Pastels

500.00

A rare Rowney retail shop display dating from the late 20th century.

Made from high-quality mahogany wood, topped with a thick card colour chart detailing the pastel colours available, which is then covered with a thick plexiglass top both of which are removable and show a set of draws underneath.

There are 5 slim draws each with 2 brass coloured metal handles.

Each drawer is divided into four with matching mahogany struts. There are gold vinyl labels for the corresponding pastel shade and number.

At the back of the case is a secret compartment which can be accessed when the wooden cover is removed.

The case is 21.5 cm tall, 53.5 cm wide and 50 cm deep.

The case was manufactured in Bracknell, near London, England.

In overall good condition, there are a few small marks to the wood and some superficial scratches on the plexiglass top.

Provenance: Daler Rowney, originally began in the mid-1700s, and went on to provide art supplies to world-renowned artists such as Constable and Turner. The company went from strength to strength and then merged with the Daler Board Company in 1983. The company is still one of the largest manufacturers and suppliers of art materials in Britain, along with the other big hitters Reeves and Windsor Newton.
